June Reading List

I’m working on a required reading list for a romance workshop I’m taking in September. Unfortunately I can’t talk about any of the books here but I’ll mention them after the workshop. I also read a lot of other stuff last month. Here are a few that really stood out.

The So Blue Marble by Dorothy Hughes, copyright 1940, from the Otto Penzler presents American Mystery Classics series. This was Dorothy Hughes debut novel and it’s a doozy, a fast paced page turner set in the time period that I hated to put down.

Birthright by Nora Roberts, copyright 2006. One thing I love about Nora is the way she blends mystery with romance. Birthright doesn’t disappoint.

The Mad Hatter Mystery by John Dickson Carr, copyright 1933. A detective story featuring Carr’s Gideon Fell, set in England. A classic whodunnit.

Rainy Day Friends by Jill Shalvis, copyright 2018. So far I’ve liked all of Jill’s characters. They’re always broken in some way but manage to find their way through. Rainy Day Friends is the kind of story I like to curl up with on a plane or a rainy day.

The Trouble With Paradise by Jill Shalvis, copyright 2007. Another take on the ship-wrecked with sexy, handsome guy theme. Worked for me.
