About
What a strange and winding road it’s been.
Yes, I just mashed up lines from two popular songs. The truth is, it has been a long and winding and strange journey, with twists and turns and bumps and major upheavals over many, many . . . (dare I admit this?) MANY decades.
Like most writers, I’ve always been a reader, consuming everything I could get my hands on from an early age. Fiction, non-fiction, encyclopedias, cereal boxes, mystery, romance, science fiction, fantasy. Every book in our small town library – if it had words on it, I read it. I’m still that way, although once I realized I wouldn’t live long enough to read everything that crossed my path, I became more selective.
I didn’t get serious about writing until I became a wildlife photographer and needed articles to accompany the photos my husband and I sold. When that ended, I found I missed the writing and decided to try my hand at fiction. It took me seven years to wrangle something worth publishing. I’ve grown a long way from that initial effort, (and gotten much faster), but I’m still proud of Gypsy Gold.
I’m a fabric artist, a gardener, a philosopher, and an enthusiastic cook. I’ve held too many jobs to list. I’m not great at housework, but I like things uncluttered and clean. I love all animals and have shared my home with dogs, cats, horses, and birds. I capture bugs and set them outside rather than kill them.
This barely touches the surface of all that I am, but it’s a start. My blog is a good place to keep tabs on me.
Cheers,
Charley
