When I was eight or nine, a neighbor lady taught me how to sew a simple skirt for one of my dolls. Sewing was a good fit for me and I leaned into it hard. I taught myself how to use my mother's old Kenmore sewing machine and never looked back. I've never met a machine I couldn't master and I've owned as many as seven at any given time.
Sewing was a great way to make money. I've made handbags and anoraks for a specialty shop. Canvas enclosures and covers for boats of all sizes. Cushions and curtains. Horse blankets and saddle covers. tents and awnings. Clothing. Once a person knows how to sew, they can make just about anything with the right machine.
I love fabric and color, so learning to sew quilts was a natural step for me. I've made dozens over the years and given most of them away. This one is a scrap quilt I designed to use up odds and ends I had lying around. This is just the patchwork top, before it gets sandwiched with a cotton batting and backing.
