November Reading List

I admit it. My go-to reads last month were mostly romances because they always end in a feel good and I've felt a need. I rate the books on a scale of 1 - 5 stars. Ones and twos get quickly discarded and you'll never hear about those. I don't see any point in dissing another author simply because their books are not to my taste. No one, and I mean NO ONE, can write a book that is for everyone. That said, let's get to it. (I'm only reviewing a handful of books out of the twenty-one that I read because it would take too long to cover them all.)
When We Were Strangers by Brenda Novak
A model returns to her home town to discover who murdered her mother when she was a child. She reconnects with her high school boyfriend who is now a cop. Lots of relationships happening in this story between the model and her father, brother, ex boyfriend, and woman who once was her best friend. Big bonus that there was also a mystery to be solved. I gave this 5 stars.
A Daughter of Fair Verona by Christina Dodd
Christina is going in a new direction here. If she can keep up the quality I highly applaud it. The daughter is the eldest of Romeo and Juliet's offspring. Yes, this is a historical romance based on the premise that the most famous couple in literature lived happily ever after and bred many children. The daughter is betrothed to marry a duke whose previous three wives all died untimely deaths. Needless to say, she is not happy about the betrothal and looking for a way out. This is obviously the first book in a new series and I look forward to the next installment. 5 stars.
Other than a few three stars by other authors that aren't worth mentioning, I went on a Christina Lauren binge. The author is actually two authors writing in a style so smooth you'd never guess.
Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren
Girl's father buys a camp after her mother dies. Over many summers and weekends she falls in love with the boy next door, then disappears without a word for eleven years. The title comes from a question the friends asked one another. "Favorite word?" And they had to explain why they chose the word. The story alternates between present day and the past, bringing the reader up to the present and eventually explaining why the woman disappeared from his life. I gave this book 5 stars.
Something Wilder by Christina Lauren
This was a fun story. Lovesick City Boy works a dude ranch in Wyoming one summer and falls in love with a famous treasure hunter's daughter. Life gets in the way and they don't see each other for ten years. One of LCB's friend's arranges a surprise dude trip without telling the others what they'll be doing. Of course the daughter and LCB meet up and still have feelings for one another. Trip takes an unexpected turn putting lives and futures on the line. 5 stars.
