Quote of the Week

This month’s quotes are all from one source – Keanu Reeves. I love Reeves the man and Reeves the actor. He is one of the more grounded of the Hollywood crowd and his generosity is legend.
“None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an afterthought. Eat the delicious food. Walk in the sunshine. Jump in the ocean.” Keanu Reeves
I would add that none of us know when our last moment walking the earth will be, so denying ourselves the things that give us joy is a foolish way to live. I grew up poor, never really having “enough” ( although age has brought the understanding that I’ve always had enough). Whenever I accrued anything, whether it was money, or fabric for sewing, or anything, I saved it in case I’d need it sometime in the shadowy future. I was afraid that if I used it, then I wouldn’t have it if I needed it down the road.
That’s a mindset I’ve had to work hard to overcome. Saving the new shoelaces for sometime in the future because I can get by with the threadbare ones I have? Foolish, foolish, foolish. Who knows if I even have a future or how long that future will be? Use the damn shoelaces. If they wear out and I need another pair, I’ll get them. In the meantime I have the pleasure of knowing my laces won’t break at an inopportune moment.
I am not an afterthought, I have value. I am worthy of new shoelaces, the delicious food, an hour or a day in the sunshine. These things give me joy and when I am filled with joy, my life is good.
