Smart Quote of the Week

“Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.”
Although this quote is often attributed to Winston Churchill, I’ve also seen it attributed to Abraham Lincoln and I could not find a definitive source for either. The important thing is the message–that life is a series of setbacks and successes, and we must hold on to a positive attitude and keep moving forward.
It also reminds us to not fear failure for it is a necessary aspect of life. We learn from our failures, make adjustments, and try again. This is healthy, it’s how we grow and improve and eventually attain our goals. Our failures make us stronger when we hang on to a positive attitude and try again. We learn that failing doesn’t mean we are bad or stupid or losers. It just means we haven’t figured it out yet, that we have more to learn.
Sometimes a failure alters our path and that’s okay. If we aren’t failing, we aren’t stretching ourselves far enough. Reach for a goal and fail to success. Last year I set a goal to write four new books. I only wrote three. That could look like failure because I didn’t meet my goal. BUT, I ended up with three new books that I wouldn’t have had if I hadn’t set the goal for four.
That’s failing to success. I call that a win.
